In 1895 appears "Acts of constitutif et société anonyme statuts d'explotation of Galatz et des tramways de Roumanie", printed in 1895 at "J. Schenk", which contains 20 pages written in French which is now at the Romanian Academy.

Memorandum was signed by the 14 shareholders on 09/22/1895.

In 1900, the company was given the concession for trams operations in Galati, made with Belgian capital, which has installed five electric tram lines with 1000 mm gauge, using old Phoenix lines, counterweight switches lines, totaling 26.5 km simple way routes: Railway Station - Dock, Central Market - Barbosi Tunnel; Braila street, Danube Palace of European Commission - Public Garden, Tecuci street.

The first tram was put into use on 14 August 1900.

In the early twentieth century, Galati was endowed therefore with the most modern means of transport: electric tram. There were at the beginning of the century, railways, contact network, a power plant, a draw cars (830 sqm with six parking tram lines, and under the lines there were access channels for control of dismantling / repairing cars) and an administrative bulding, all built on an area of 4620 sqm (the land being owned by City Hall).

Rolling stock consisted of 18 motor cars and 18 trailers. Each car has two axles and a motor of 30 hp motor and two braking systems. The wagons were 24 seats on two benches, and trailers were equipped with six benches of two places. They were illuminated at night, and closed in the winter with removable windows.

Tread rails were mounted on a bed of crushed stone, 1,000 mm gauge, although the initial agreement established a 1,435 mm gauge. Pillars of the electrical network were metal and power lines were divided into sections to facilitate repairs in the event of damage. Tram route was as follows: the plant, on the streets: Portului, Ana Ipatescu, Dogariei, Tecuci, Balcescu, Brailei, Mihai Bravu and Traian. Today that land and buildings situated in Garii Street no. 8, are administered by Electrica.

During January 1917 - June 1919 because of World War I, city trams did not run on the city.

Galati Communal Works in 1931, restarted public transport including also buses on a route of 3.5 km on Domneasca Street (since 1925 a few individuals make the first bus debut on the street) and transportation equipment and continued with new electric trams 19 built at Shipyard Galati.

In 1944 the city remained without electric transport. In 1948 has appear Galaţi Joint Undertaking (ICG), operating with only seven recovered and repaired trams, which were destroyed by the fascists.

Since 1952, ICG made public transport with buses (ZIS-105) and in 1956 appear the first taxi and features: 45 cars, 11 trailers, 27 buses and 15 autotaximeters.

In 1962, was set Galaţi City Transport Enterprise (ITO), which has: 55 tram cars, 15 autotaxi, 31 buses and 30 trucks. Tram depot was set up in the IC Frimu in the building of the first aviation hangar in Galati, which had remained isolated between the houses built around it, on the old city airport. The hangar is still there, but with other uses.

In November 1979, it has been established the enterprise County Local Transport (IJTL), currently known as SC Transurb S.A. and was equipped with 170 tram cars, 55 trailers, 32.8 km simple way to gauge 1,435 mm, 402 buses, of which 14 articulated a new depot for 50 tram cars, three stations and two recovery motor vehicle maintenance stations with a total capacity of 600 vehicles equivalent.

After 1980, tram lines were extended to 33.8 km, simple way, from which 9 km were made in modern solution with longrina concrete. New routes were established on the streets 13 Iunie, Scanteia between Siderurgistul and Asachi and G. Coşbuc Avenue, between Piersicului and Basarabia, Sulitei street and Stefan cel Mare street. Trams have conquered the city. They became the main means of transport. Moreover, because economic efficiency of their operation, it began to be used for freight. Special trams transported fruit and vegetables from the ILF warehouse on Calea Prutului to the Central Market. During this period, were put into use 3 new electrical substation, at the east gate of the plant in the North, and at the Railway Station. The No.1 tram depot was extended by doubling the capacity of maintenance repairs. It has been built a new tram depot in the North of the city, and have also purchased 90 buses and UDA-117 type.

On January 11, 1991, IJTL becomes R.A.T.U..

S.C. Transurb S.A. was founded in 1998 as a result of reorganization of Ratu Galati.
